Now comes Rs 1.3 crore pen in India

NEW DELHI: Austerity is passe. With the economy back on track, you can think of penning your own success story with the most expensive pen ever
brought to India at Rs 1.35 crore, thanks to Swiss writing instrument maker Caran d'Ache.

William Penn, a Bangalore-based retail store chain for luxury pens, which has an exclusive tie-up with Caran d'Ache, said the pen sold under the name 'La Modernista' is by far the most expensive ever introduced in India.

"This is the most-expensive pen ever introduced by Caran d'Ache in India and to my knowledge the most-expensive pen in the country," William Penn Chief Executive Officer Nikhil Ranjan told PTI.

The hand-crafted pen with an 18-carat gold nib is considered the second most-expensive pen in the world after German luxury pen maker Mont Blanc's 'Mystery Masterpiece' which was sold at a price of $730,000 (Rs 3 crore).

Mont Blanc's controversial luxury pen dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi is arguably the most expensive in India priced at Rs 11 lakh to date.

"There has been a lot of interest among pen collectors in India for luxury pens. Unlike the rest of the world, when high-end items are not doing so well, the Indian market for luxury pen is growing," he said.

With its growing economy, India has been targeted by many luxury product companies, including the likes of carmakers BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and top-end fashion brands like Armani and Ferragamo to tap the increasing number of affluent people.

The company, which sells over 20 premium writing instruments like Sheaffer, Sailor, Mont Blanc and Parker in the country, said it has been growing at the rate of around 25 per cent year-over-year and is likely to maintain the growth.

"We are opening another five stores in the metros taking the total number of stores to 15 across the country. We believe there is potential for luxury pens in India and we are definitely in an expansion mode," Ranjan said.

Besides, William Penn introduced the limited edition of its 'Shiva' collection from Caran d'Ache priced at Rs 5.15 lakh.

"We have introduced 108 pieces of Shiva and almost 80 per cent have been sold out. Besides, we have also got a lot of queries for 'La Modernista'. So, India is an interesting market for us," Caran d'Ache General Manager Silvio Laurenti said.

The actors as a brand

Is Shah Rukh Khan a brand by itself ?
A definition of a brand which was learnt by us was any design , symbol , tagline which defines a product . Does that same criteria apply for brands / products /actors like SRK , Beckham , AB and many others ?

Well even if they dont fit that criteria i feel that they can fit the bill of faculties at B -schools for sessions related to Brands , IMC and many others .

The goverment policy

19/02/10

Well being an indian and to to exercise my voters right for which an id card is mandatory , i had gone to a small town called Nedungandam somewhere at Idukki district ( kerala ) . Man i had a whole day ruined out there starting from around 4 in morning .. where i had to wait for nearly 4 hours in the queue for my documents to be inspected by officer then might send me for the next round which is again the same old procedure , wasting lots of paper documents .

I have a simple question to ask the government cant they move into the age of computers than still sticking on to the age of papers , like for instance the in the transport bus stand at Trivandrum where there is ticket issued for buses , the only use is to print and type the tickets so what is actually use of a computers ?

The government can work on simple thing by asking some software companies to develop a simple software in which these officials can work on and create a form in which all these details can filled in and officials can check it based on the e-papers and reduce the stress for the individuals also .

Mukesh Ambani ranked 5th best CEO in the world
18 Dec 2009, 1418 hrs IST,
NEW DELHI: Mukesh Ambani, who heads India's most valuable company Reliance Industries, has been ranked among top five best performing CEOs in the

world by the prestigious Harvard Business Review. Ambani, the only Indian to feature among top 50 CEOs, is in the same league as Steve Jobs of Apple, Yun Jong-Yong of Samsung Electronics, Russian energy firm Gazprom's Alexey Miller and John Chambers of Cisco Systems. He is also ranked number two among the top 10 emerging market CEOs with Miller at the top. K V Kamath of ICICI Bank is the other Indian in the list of Top 10 Emerging Market CEOs. He is ranked at number 9. The Harvard Business Review said it ranked CEOs of large public traded companies in a study conducted over 2000 CEOs worldwide. The entire group represented 48 nationalities and companies based in 33 countries. It put Ambani in the list of "up-through-the-ranks leaders" along with the Samsung boss. "Among the up-through-the-ranks leaders on our list are Yun Jong-Yong, who joined Samsung straight out of college and worked there 30 years before becoming CEO, and Mukesh Ambani, who joined RIL in 1981, when it was still a textile company run by his father. These CEOs may not all be household names, but here's an objective look at who delivered the top results over the long term," HBR said, ranking Steve Jobs as the top CEO in the world. Jobs, it said, delivered a whopping 3,188 per cent industry-adjusted return (34 per cent compounded annually) after he rejoined Apple as CEO in 1997, when the company was in dire strait. From that time until the end of September 2009, Apple's market value increased by USD 150 billion. He was followed by Yun Jong-Yong, who ran South Korea's Samsung Electronics from 1996 to 2008. "Yun is an example of a leader who has stayed out of the limelight. During his tenure he capably transformed Samsung from a maker of memory chips and me-too products into an innovator selling digital products such as leading-edge cell phones."
